ALASKA AIRLINES 737-400 Who doesn't recognize the smiling Eskimo greeting air travelers from his perch on the tail of this airplane? The original Alaska Eskimo first appeared in the mid-1970s. But he wasn't alone! At the same time, Alaska introduced similar markings of a green Totem Pole, a red Gold Prospector, and a purple Russian Church dome. The original Eskimo seemed to be frowning, but on the current design he seems to be pleased with his lofty position.
